Safe Deposit Boxes

Show Table of Contents

Many people store important information, and sometimes valuables, in safe deposit boxes.

Any person whose name is on a bank's list of authorized users for a given box may access it at any time.

In the absence of such authorization, a decedent's executor or heir can ask the bank to search the box for a will (or a deed to a burial plot, or burial instructions). A representative of the bank will open the box in the presence of the requestor, remove any will that is found, and deliver it to the court (consider asking for a copy of the will before they deliver it).
