EstateExec Menus

Show Table of Contents

At the top of the EstateExec window is a menu bar which gives you access to various commands (note that menu content dynamically changes to fit your current activity):

Estate Menu

The Estate menu enables you to interact with the estate overall (you can think of each estate as a separate "document"):

New

To create a new EstateExec estate, click the Estate | New menu and follow the instructions. Among other things, you will give the estate a personal "label" (e.g., Dad, Robert P. Axelrod), which you can later use to quickly identify it, and which you can change at any time.

Open

To open an existing estate, click the Estate | Open menu, and select the desired estate. You will be able to select from estates you previously created, or estates to which someone has granted you Share access.

Delete

To delete an estate:

  1. Click the Estate | Delete menu.
  2. In the dialog that appears, select an estate from the list of estates you have created.
  3. Enter your password (acknowledging that you understand that this is a serious operation that cannot be undone).
  4. Click the Delete Estate button.

Label

You can change an estate's label at any time via the Estate | Label menu.

Normally, you assign an estate a label when you first create the estate (think of this label as the name of your estate "document"). It can be something as simple as "Mom", or something more formal like "Robert P. Jones".

Tip: So that you can easily tell which estate are you using, EstateExec displays this label (i.e., estate name) as the title of the tab containing the Estate Owner/Decedent name.

Share

To share access to an estate with someone else, click the Estate | Share menu and follow the instructions in the Share dialog (see Share access).

Attach Files

You can attach files to almost any item in EstateExec (e.g., asset, transaction, heir, etc.).

To attach files at the estate level, not necessarily associated with any particular item, click the Estate | Attach Files menu (from the dialog that appears, you will also have the option to see attachments you have made to particular items as well). See Attach Files for details.

Save

EstateExec will normally autosave your changes every few minutes, but you can manually save immediately by clicking the Estate | Save menu, or the Save All button at the top right of the estate page. If the menu choice is grayed, there are no unsaved changes.

Autosave

To control your autosave settings (e.g., Never autosave, autosave without asking, etc.), click the Estate | Autosave menu (see Save or Cancel Edits).

Explore Sample

You can click the Estate | Explore Sample to open a sample estate that we have already populated with example information, so that you can see how you might handle certain situations, or if you want to take a look at what things might look like later in the process.

Recently Opened Estates

To quickly open an estate you recently used, just click on its label at the bottom of the Estate menu.

Edit Menu

The Edit menu enables you to make changes to the data on the current EstateExec tab you are using (e.g., Assets, Cashflow, etc.).

The Edit menu can be quite helpful, but it is usually not necessary to use it, as most edit operation can be made by interacting with the information on the Tab directly, or clicking one of the buttons on the Tab.

The Edit menu contents change according to the EstateExec Tab, and the situation on the Tab, but in general it includes options to Create an item, Delete an item, Attach a File to an item, Undo All Changes since last Save, and more. To understand those options, it's best to use the Help menu to get help with that specific Tab.

View Menu

The View menu enables you view estate information in certain ways, and to control how the current EstateExec Tab presents information.

As with the Edit menu, the View menu contents change according to the EstateExec Tab with which you are currently working, and the situation on the Tab.

That being said, there are a some options that are common across Tabs:

Table Columns

To hide (or make visible) a particular column in the table, click the View | Table Columns menu and toggle the desired columns. You can also control these columns via the table menu in the top right of the table (see Using Tables for more helpful information about working with tables.

Resize Columns to Fit

To make all columns fit into the visible width of the table, you can click the View | Resize Columns to Fit menu option (or click above the top right of the table.

Reports

To generate and view a report about the estate overall, click the View | Reports menu and choose a report. See Reports for details about available reports.

Choose Tab

Rather than click directly on an EstateExec Tab you wish to use (e.g., Overview, Debts, etc.), you can click the View | Choose Tab menu and select the desired tab that way.

Services Menu

The Services menu gives you access to various additional estate services EstateExec may offer in your area (depending on the type of estate). See Services for details.

Help Menu

Perhaps the best way to get help is to Ask AI Lenore, but every Tab contains a number of Help options as well.

As with the View menu, the Help menu contents change according to the EstateExec Tab with which you are currently working, and the situation on the Tab. In general, though, the Help menu can give you direct access to information about working with the current Tab, the overall Reference Manual, the Executor Guide, the EstateExec Glossary, and more.
